3.8 OBLIGATIONS

Intellectual Property Rights are a monopoly right given to the "inventor" in exchange for making the nature of the invention public so that others can use it. As such there are obligations on the grantee and on the users of the invention. In the case of Plant Breeder's Rights, one of the key obligations on the grantee (Breeder) is to make reasonable quantities of the propagating material available at a reasonable price to meet public demand.

The key obligation on a user of a new variety is to obtain the authority of the grantee first.
