4.8 TESTING

Australia's Plant Breeder's Rights scheme uses breeder testing to establish the distinctness, uniformity and stability of new varieties. The breeder or their agent carries out comparative trials, using UPOV technical guidelines, to establish that each new variety satisfies DUS criteria. To ensure technical rigour, the PBR Office requires all applicants to engage the services of a Qualified Person.

There are different requirements for testing done in Australia and Overseas - see Sections 4.8.1 and 4.8.2 respectively.
