Master of Philosophy (MPhil)
The Master of Philosophy is a research degree that requires the completion of a thesis of not more than 60,000 words. Successful applicants will be expected to hold a good upper second class honours degree or better in law. A full-time student will normally be expected to complete the MPhil in approximately one year.

Doctor of Juridical Science (SJD)
(offered only at The Australian National University, Canberra)
The SJD is a professional doctorate that combines a coursework component with a substantial research component. Students undertaking the SJD will have to successfully complete four postgraduate coursework subjects (see Coursework Programs, below) and a thesis of approximately 65,000 words. Successful applicants will be expected to hold a good upper second class honours degree or better in law. A full-time student will be expected to complete the SJD program in approximately two and a half years.

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
The PhD requires submission of a thesis of not more than 100,000 words. The thesis must make a substantial contribution to learning in the field of law. Successful applicants will be expected to hold a good upper second class honours degree or better in law. A full-time student will be expected to complete in approximately three years. |
Enrolment for the Research Degrees
Enrolment for the Research Degrees offered by the Centre is conducted
through the postgraduate offices at the ANU in Canberra or Griffith University
in Brisbane. Students will enrol through either institution and will be
appointed a supervisor based locally, but students may also draw upon
the expertise of, and may be co-supervised by, staff in either Brisbane
or Canberra.
