Professor Alain Strowel, Professor of Law, Facultés universitaires Saint-Louis, Brussels and University of Liège, and Attorney, Covington & Burling, Brussels, presented a keynote address A Copyright Journey in the EU and the EC Enforcement Directive at ACIPA's Copyright: New Futures, New Agendas conference in Brisbane on 18 February. Following the conference, Alain presented a seminar Balancing Freedom of Expression and Copyright in Europe: A Civil Law Perspective in Canberra on 21 February.

Professor Graeme W Austin, Professor of Law, James E Rogers College of Law, The University of Arizona, visited the Centre in July. During his visit to the Centre in Brisbane and Canberra, Graeme presented a seminar Who is the 'Consumer' in US Trademark Law? at both locations.

Professor Mark Janis, H. Blair & Joan V. White Intellectual Property Law Scholar, College of Law, University of Iowa, visited
the Centre in November. During his visit Mark
delivered a keynote address on Are Plant Variety Protection Systems Anachronistic? at ACIPA's Intellectual Property and Farmers’ Rights conference in
Canberra on 12 November.

Dr Kate Murashige, Partner, Morrison & Foerster LLP (San Diego), visited
the Centre from 20 to 25 November. During her visit to the Centre, Kate
delivered a keynote address on Current Issues in Biotechnology Patenting
- The United States Perspective at the ACIPA Conference on 23 November
in Canberra.
November 2001
Dr Margaret Llewelyn, Director, Law and Biotechnology Centre, University
of Sheffield visited the Centre from 15 to 30 November. During her visit
to the Centre, Margaret gave a seminar, Patents and the Human Genome:
From Hello Dolly to Chips with Everything on 21 November 2001 (in
Brisbane) and also delivered a keynote address on Patents, Breeders'
Rights and Plant Innovations: The European Perspective at the ACIPA
Conference on 23 November in Canberra.
